On the second floor of the Laramie County Library in Cheyenne, Wyo., you’ll find one of the most eye-catching pieces of this year-old facility: an animation station.
The station, designed to give kids an opportunity to create their own stop-motion movies (complete with sound effects), continues to be one of the most popular pieces on a floor filled with popular items for kids.
Now, the library has gone one step farther: all of these films are accessible online to view at home, upload to other sites, and more.
“To our knowledge, this is the only public library in America offering this wonderful technology to kids,” County Librarian Lucie Osborn said. “It’s just another component that makes this library a true destination for the community and beyond.”
The Laramie County Library System was named 2008 Library of the Year by Library Journal.
One of the biggest users and proponents of the station is eight-year-old Ben Lucas: “It’s great to make movies all by yourself, without help from anyone else,” Lucas said. “You have all the actors right there, and you get to be the director!"
Complete information about the animation station, including a “video of the month” as well as instructions on how to use it and access videos, can be found at LCLSonline.org/animation_station.
