Public Offers Helpful Opinions at Library's Workshops and Focus Groups

CHEYENNE, WYO. - March weather may have posed some challenges, but a number of Laramie County citizens turned out this month to attend public meetings and focus groups held by the Laramie County Library System.

Several public meetings and focus groups were held recently, focusing on what services and amenities the public wanted to see in the new LaramieCounty Library, as well as suggestions on the building layout and design. The focus groups, which included separate discussions with children, young adults, senior citizens, business leaders, educators, and library staff gleaned suggestions from over 100 participants.

These meetings were moderated either by Anders Dahlgren, the library project's building consultant, or Andy Nielsen and Tom Hootman, members of the project's architectural team.

"Some major themes came out of these meetings, including ideas about the use of outdoor space, connection to the community, and the architectural design," Hootman said. "It does seem like the idea of 'build it right and build it soon' captures the public's desire to get this project on the November ballot."

Library ideas from children are currently on display in the Laramie County Library, in glass display cases near the Checkout Desk.

Throughout the past several months, LCLS held nearly 30 public meetings and workshops to glean public opinion and comment about the building project.

Earlier this year, the library board announced that the preferred site for the new Laramie County Library is on the two-block area between Pioneer and O'Neil avenues between 22nd and 23rd streets.

The library continues to encourage the community to offer opinions about what they would like to have in a new Laramie County Library building. Comments can be submitted in one of four ways: calling 635-1032, ext. 121, e-mailing building@larm.lib.wy.us, filling out a form at any LCLS location, or completing an online form at www.LCLSonline.org/building/suggestions.html.
