Library Announces Site for New Laramie County Library
CHEYENNE - After years of planning and investigation, the Laramie County Library System Board of Directors voted today on the site of a new Laramie County Library building.
At a press conference this afternoon, Board Chair Sharyn Guthridge announced that site "2A," on the western side of Pioneer Avenue between 22nd and 23rd streets, was chosen as the future site for the Laramie County Library, pending voter approval for funding in November. As preliminary designs indicate, this two-story structure would also have a parking lot on the land west of this block.
"This was a unanimous vote by the board," Guthridge said. "The potential for this site is extraordinary, and offers some fantastic growth opportunities for the library."
The other two sites under consideration in this final phase were the current location or a variation thereof and land on the VA property off Pershing Blvd.
With hopes of getting on the Specific Purpose Tax ballot this November, the board met with the county commissioners, and has already started meeting with the Cheyenne City Council and town councils in Laramie County.
"It's proximity to the Civic Center and the municipal building offers the chance for a campus for the community," Andy Nielsen, the project's managing principal architect, said.
Nielsen is with the Anderson Mason Dale, part of the architectural team chosen for this project.
Next on the library's agenda is a special open meeting for the public to offer their opinions about services and amenities they would like to see in a new Laramie County Library. That meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Laramie County Library's Exhibition Gallery.
